Authors in Business; 5 Elements to Selling a Book in a Book store

Hello Readers!

I-Wrote-A-Book

Did you know there are five elements that sell your book when you aren’t around? They do this selling when you aren’t able to say, “Hey! This is a good book. Buy it!”

When a reader is in the store, do you ever wonder what exactly gets them to purchase your book amongst the hundreds of other books in the store if they didn’t come in to buy your book intentionally? Let me tell you what it is.

  1. The cover/The title. This grabs the readers attention immediately if they don’t know you. If they did, it would be your name alone but the first thing to grab a readers attention is the cover and/or title.
  2. Now that they have the book in their hands, they are flipping it over and reading the synopsis. You’ve reached step two. Good job on having an eye catching cover.
  3. The next element to sell your book is the first line, maybe even the first paragraph. If the reader has time to open the book and read the first line, you are more than half way there to getting this reader to buy your book. If you sell them on the first line or paragraph, then the reader is headed to step four.
  4. The price. There’s really nothing you can do about this step. If the price is right and their want for the book is great enough, they will buy it.
  5. The last two steps go together so technically there’s six but most of the time readers stop at five. It’s the bio. If your bio is on your book as it should be, the bio should sell them. If this is a series or you’ve written quite a few books in the genre or been around for some time or simply are a new author all of this should be in your bio and they should be interested enough to want to buy it. Now after they’ve done all of this, most readers, like myself, go online and google the author. They look for websites, social media pages, amazon author pages and more. And this should seal the deal in purchasing your book.

This is why it is so important for authors to have every one of these elements well put together because you just never know what is going to cause the reader to buy your book.

Tune in next Wednesday when I discuss the these five elements and apply them to purchasing a book online.

How to Tuesday; How to Create the Perfect Pre Release Package

Hello Readers,

book-launchGetting ready to release a book is one of the most exciting things as an author. It doesn’t matter if you’ve released a book before or not, releasing your 100thbook compared to your 20this all the same. It’s like having a new baby even when you already have two.  So, when it comes to getting ready to release a book, it’s always a lot of fun.

There are so many fun things you can do to get ready for the release, book tours, blog tours, cover reveals, pre reviews etc. So how can you create the perfect pre-release package? Let’s discuss.

The first thing to sort out is what exactly you want to surround this release. Do you think doing a cover reveal will be more exciting for your book? Is your cover so captivating that people will want to purchase your book off the cover alone? Do a cover reveal.

What about a book tour? Are readers going to flock to you off your reading and presence that they will want to purchase your book for that reason alone? Do you have a good following? This might be the right move for you.

Blog tours are basically the same thing as a book tour, but from the comfort of your own home. Are you trying to gain new followers? Schedule a blog tour.

But, scheduling events is just the icing on the cake. Simple organizing and being prepared for the release goes a long away. Here are a few things you need to make sure are set in motion before the book releases.

  • Has the book been through several rounds of editing
  • Have you updated your website about your coming book
  • Are all social media platforms ready for the book you’ve been promoting since you’ve been writing
  • Have you created logos and graphics to help promote.
  • Is the cover finished
  • Has the synopsis been created
  • Is your bio updated
  • Have you started contacting the media about your release
  • Have you created a release date
  • Most importantly, have you budgeted for this release

If you can put together good events to surround your book and then put together a well-organized list to prepare for the release, you are well on your way to having the perfect pre-release package.

Motivational Monday; Organization to Stay on Task

Hello Readers and Happy Monday!

maxresdefaultOrganizing is very fun…to certain people. I, for one, love to organize and see things put into order. For me, organizing helps me stay on trask.

If you are like many people in today’s society, you struggle with staying on task. With so many things holding our attention, it’s hard to stay on task that’s why I suggest organizing to help you stay on task.

Lists are a great way to stay on task. If you have a list next to you, you are more than likely to glance at the list periodically to see what you have coming up next than to mentally wonder off on to something else.

You can also keep a timer or clock. Give yourself a deadline to work on one thing and one thing only.

Distraction free environment. If where you are working at is distraction free, you are more likely to stay on task.

These three things can help you stay on task and get the job done.
